Autism has become increasingly common. According to the CDC, “Nationally, 1 in 59 children had a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) by age 8 in 2014.” With Autism spectrum diagnoses on the rise, I want to make sure families receive the support they need. No one with Autism should ever feel that there is 'something wrong' with them, and no parents of a child who has autism should feel alone and helpless.”
Awareness is so important in order to help those with Autism. The whole month of April is dedicated to Autism awareness. Although awareness of this condition is up, the next step is insuring people with Autism have the resources they need to live a happy and healthy life. I admire the Autism Society of the Greater Capital Region because they offer one to one community-based support as well as remains an organization that is a leader in Autism advocacy. Not only do they strive to be the voice for adults and children who have autism, but they also provide resources and compassionate support to parents of children with Autism. It is very overwhelming and scary to hear your child's ASD diagnosis. The ASGCR can help parents find anything from the best therapists to a local dentist office that is accommodating of individuals with autism.
As a parent, donating my $95 to help another parent get the support and information they need is a worthy cause to me. This is why I've chosen The Autism Society of the Greater Capital Region, New York for my MY95 donation.
