New York State and the federal government have promulgated new laws regarding paid sick leave and other leave time pursuant to COVID-19.

Below are the notices for your information:

The New York State Law provides paid and or unpaid sick leave when an employee is subject to a mandatory or precautionary order of quarantine or isolation (“quarantine order”), for a certain number of days, depending upon the number of employees, and the net revenue for smaller employers.  In addition, the NYS law may provide additional Paid Family Leave and disability benefits when the employee and/or the employee’s minor child is subject to a Quarantine Order.  The NYS law is already in effect.  Additional information is available at https://www.governor.ny.gov/paid-sick-leave-covid-19-impacted-new-yorkers/emergency-covid-19-paid-sick-leave

The federal law goes into effect on April 1st.  It provides for emergency paid sick leave in certain circumstances, and additional paid family leave if the employee is unable to work or telework while caring for a child under the age of 18 during the COVID-19 public health emergency.  Additional information is available at https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/pandemic
