Marvin & Company’s third My95: Supporting the Sister Maureen Joyce Center’s “Garden of Feedin”
Families all over the world suffer from hunger. Many assume that this issue exclusively happens in the world’s most impoverished countries. Unfortunately, it is closer to home than people think. This is a problem that occurs even within the Capital Region. With the high levels of poverty and cost of food in the United States, many families go without food, let alone good, wholesome meals.
Thanks to organizations like the Sister Maureen Joyce Center, there are people working towards ending hunger right here in our area. The center brings individuals from all over the community together for one goal: to feed those in need with the Garden of Feedin’.
The Sister Maureen Joyce Center is a food pantry, soup kitchen and a community garden, all in one. Every spring, volunteers like myself prepare the garden so that it can produce crops all summer long. Later in the season, local students band together to plant fresh fruits and vegetables. This joint effort allows the Garden of Feedin’ to supply produce for the Center’s kitchen all summer long. Last year the kitchen was able to provide three meals a week for around 150 people.
With my 95 dollars I honored to provide the Center with the garden tools necessary to prepare the Garden of Feedin for another bountiful harvest to feed people in need of the Capital Region!
