A History of Shaping Schools’ Futures

Marvin and Company has a deep understanding of educational institutions and their professional service needs. Our experience spans from New York school districts to private schools to charter schools.

School District Expertise

We have provided audit and consulting services to New York State school districts for over 30 years. Over this time, we have developed a strong track record for anticipating and responding to the needs of school districts due to our depth of industry experience.

Private School Expertise

Our private school experience dates back to audits of colleges and universities in the 1960s. We can conduct single audits under Uniform Grant Guidance (formerly OMB Circular A-133), including audits of student financial assistance programs.

Charter School Expertise

Since 2000, we have worked with many of the Capital District area charter schools in providing audit, tax, accounting services and management advisory services.  Based upon this experience in serving charter schools, we can help identify issues that are critical to your organization’s success.

Audit Services for Schools

Our firm and most audit staff meet the CPE and QC requirements necessary to work on engagements requiring adherence to GAGAS (Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards). All of our staff are required to obtain 24 hours of government specific CPE every two years. In addition to meeting and generally exceeding these CPE standards, prior to the start of school district audits, our team undergoes a specific one-day training session in order to best serve you during the audit process. Our team also annually attends the New York State Association of School Business Officials (NYSASBO) Education Summit and Expo.

Internal Audit Services for Schools

Our experience in working with New York State school districts, private schools and charter schools expands beyond traditional audit services to internal controls. We currently provide internal audit services to many schools and we have developed an approach to documenting and assessing internal controls specifically for educational institutions.
